Grading Success

Seven students from South Devon’s UKTA Torbay Taekwon-do School, along with their instructor Mr Steven Millis, recently travelled to Reading in Berkshire to attend a black belt seminar weekend, and for some, this included the promotional black belt grading.

The gruelling 10 hour long seminar conducted by First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha with several other Masters & Senior Masters, covered Friday evening and all day Saturday, with the grading taking place on the Sunday.

On this occasion Mr Millis himself was grading for promotion to 6th degree and had waited 5 years to become eligible to grade at this next level. Not only was this a proud moment for himself but also for his daughter Hannah Millis (age 13) who promoted to 1st Dan.

Also promoting to 1st Dan was Christopher Wright (age 12) and there were three other promotions to 2nd Dan for Amanda Barge, Darren Brinham and Thomas Bridge.

All students were required to demonstrate techniques for Patterns, Sparring and Power at varying levels of difficulty. The standard of Taekwon-Do was very high, and it was a very emotional day for everyone, but fortunately the nerves were overcome as they all performed exceptionally well. Many, many months of preparation, dedication and hard work paid off as they all passed, and Mr Millis and his students should be very proud of their achievements.
